Crewkerne Town Council very much supports the retention of the saved Local Plan Allocation KS/CREW/1 commitment; and the existing employment land at the trading estate at Cropmead 96/01288/OUT must be protected from potential change of use because it is 'fit for purpose'. Aged/unfit Employment land at the North Street Trading Estate has been lost to housing development in recent years, so it is vitally important to secure the above land for the future.

Section 9.16-9.18 identifies the strategic need to protect employment sites and it should be considered important not to jeopardise development potential by allowing noise sensitive development nearby. If residential development occurs before industrial development, an assessment under PPG24 will not identify the need for protection from noise and complaints may therefore arise later. Employment Land The Town Council is content that the main thrust of future employment should be sited to the west of the town, on both sides of the main road and embracing the old Horlicks site.
