8.21 Meeting the housing needs of the District is a key objective in South Somerset District’s Sustainable Community Strategy.[1] The Well Designed and Well Built theme, Goal 9: Homes, includes strategic priorities to increase the number of affordable homes to meet the needs of residents and to recognise and support the accommodation needs of Gypsies and Travellers.

8.22 Homelessness is a major cause of concern in the District. As of September 2009 there were approximately 4,500 households on the Housing Register.
