Wincanton
Wincanton is classified as one of the four Primary Market Towns within South Somerset alongside Chard, Crewkerne and Ilminster. Despite this, the preferred options consultation overlooks its capacity for growth over the plan period with circa 220 dwellings and 4.8ha of employment land proposed. This is based on the assessed residual requirement for new homes in the town when calculated up to 2036.

On the 5th March 2015 South Somerset District Council adopted the South Somerset Local Plan ( 2006 – 2028 ), which included and was dependant on the statement on Wincanton by the inspector which is shown below.
There has been no consultation with Wincanton, at any level, and the provision of the required policy to balance housing and employment for the town has not even commenced. Therefore we are left with a situation, that means the Local Plan ( 2006 – 2028 ) no longer exists due to the provi
