This paragraph is somewhat inaccurate. Because of the historic evolution of Martock from three villages and then 'Newtown' a commercial and residential centre around the railway station, there never has been a 'defined Town Centre' and retail outlets have traditionally been part of the whole ribbon. Although many have sadly now closed, this historical feature is still evident and we now see, for these historical reasons, most 'comparison units' in the outer ends of the ribbon and the 'convenienc
