2.4 Milborne Port town Centre Section 8.63

Section 8.63 states “Milborne Port’s town centre is very small, with just six commercial units interspersed with domestic properties and the library. The buildings in the town centre are largely traditional in appearance with a number being listed. The town centre is located within one of the settlement’s two Conservation Areas. “

At the time of writing the library has now been closed and the former premises are empty. Similarly the former Electrical and Florist shops.  This leaves only 3 shops remaining open.

The 2 conservation areas in the village are soon to have a major North-South extension added, covering the river valley from town centre in south up to The Granary in the north, and the area either side. It was confirmed by local Councillor in August that this extension is in the final stages of being completed held up only by staff shortages in the conservation department at SSDC, and should be accepted later in 2019.

Conclusion: Section 8.63 should be updated to reflect the rapid decline in amenities in the village, and the new Conservation Area extension.
