On behalf of Public Health at Somerset County Council, thank you for the opportunity to comment on the modifications to the SSDC Local plan. Attracting new businesses to the area should be a key aspect of any development given its ability to bring in new workers and also encourage the younger population to stay in Somerset. Lack of employment opportunity is associated with low educational aspiration and many negative health outcomes so it is good to see the New Employment Land aspects remain an

The land requirement may be 'robust' in as much as it can now be regarded as such, and set in concrete for future planning considerations, but the process and methodologies of getting there are anything but 'robust', and are unsound, certainly in the case of Ilchester, and probably for other Market Towns and Rural Centres. See later comment in relation to the table that follows.
