Home Page     South Somerset District Council is in the process of preparing a new Local Plan (previously called the Core Strategy). This is a Planning document that will be used to guide new development across South Somerset up to the year 2028.
The Council has already consulted on its draft planning proposals in October to December 2010 when everyone was given the opportunity to comment on the Council's ‘preferred options’. The Council has now reviewed all the comments received and has sought to address the issues that were identified and make some changes to the Plan to reflect what the community want. The publication of evidence and the new National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) have also been addressed.
This consultation is the community's opportunity to make comments on the Proposed Submission Local Plan. Once the consultation is complete the Council will collate all the comments received and give them to a Government appointed Planning Inspector who will review the issues raised at a Planning Examination. The leaflet 'Plan for South Somerset to 2028' gives further information.

Villages not listed above are considered in the Rural Settlements section of the Proposed Submission Local Plan.

If you wish to see and make comments on specific planning policies set out in the Plan you should select the relevant chapter of the Plan below. At the end of each section you can make comments using 'Add a comment' on the bar at the bottom.

The Proposed Submission Local Plan 2006-2028 consultation is now  closed and no further comments will be accepted. All documents and website responses can be viewed using the links to settlements above and the link to sections below. Responses received via email and post have been added to the website.

The Proposed Submission Local Plan and supporting documents were submitted to the Planning Inspector on the 21 January 2013 together with all representations received. This followed Full Council's endorsement of the Proposed Amendments to the Proposed Submission Local Plan (71 in total) on Thursday 17 January 2013.
