The following text to Policy SS3: Delivering Employment Land is supported as providing justification to this policy: 4.58 - Agreed that the Rural Centres should provide a strong employment function commensurate with the settlement hierarchy based on past performance as evidenced by the Annual Business Inquiry (ABI), Business Register Employment Survey (BRES) and Baker Associates Report 'Housing Requirement for South Somerset and Yeovil' (Jan 2011). This will ensure better self containment and s

We note that the Council has utilised the English Partnerships Development Ratios, 2001 (Para. 4.64, Footnote to Table 1 and Appendix 1 (Evidence Base)) in employment land calculations to determine the economic potential of individual settlements. However, the 2001 English Partnerships document was updated and replaced by the Employment Densities Guide 2nd Edition, 2010 – and in this being the latest guide and up-to-date relevant evidence it should form the basis of the calculations as Ev

4.55 Basing employment levels in the District based on historic performance and the assumption that a return to peak levels will be achieved by 2015 is flawed. This approach is based on early 2011 data which will, given subsequent developments, be overly optimistic. Current projections for economic growth must be revised to a more realistic level to avoid any significant over supply that could actually damage existing viable sites. This approach is not justified. 4.56 "Because it is more optimi

I object to Paragraph 4.55. The ONS figures for the number of people in Yeovil who are claiming job seekers allowance has remained high since the start of the recession. In early 2008, the number was around 600; this rapidly increased to greater than 1200 in late 2008, and has remained at this level or above since. The statements in paragraph 4.55 do not correct reflect the current economic climate of the District, and a goal to halve the number of unemployed in two and half years is unrealistic
