Employment projection/Innovation Centre
The SSDC in their Local Plan believe than can attract 2,500 jobs to the area. Their current record to date would substantiate this claim.
At the full council meeting the Yeovil Innovation Centre (SSDC run) was held up a shinning example of how the SSDC attract and support business in the area.

5.20 Diminishing industry around eastern entrance to the town provides ideal opportunity for redevelopment of superior designed office space with adjacent multi-storey car park to accommodate commuting vehicles exiting the A30 dual carriageway from Sherborne. 5.19 There are no parameters to dictate new business to "support aerospace and other high tech industries" requires location adjacent to flight path of present manufacture and testing sites. Building new enterprise along a water frontage better achieves enhancement of work/leisure ethos claimed as benefiting health and well being in the local plan plus dwindling town centre occupation described in 5.21.

b. Employment (5.18) I agree the need for more diversification. The growth of service and retail sections has provided some, but the continued likely shrinkage of AgustaWestland and associated high-tech employment needs more.
c. Office Space in Town Centre. (5.18) a worthy ambition but difficult to achieve given the economics of radial growth, road infrastructure and parking. This needs a clearer view of how it might be achieved.
