The first sentence of paragraph 5.22 is not justified on the basis it is not consistent with paragraph 4.37 of the Retail Study Update 2010 (updated further in 2012) forming part of the evidence base.

The floorspace figures in paragraph 5.23 should be clarified so that it is clear these are net sales areas (consistent with the Retail Study Update).

d. Retail (5.22) This section seems to imply a brake on further retail development in Yeovil and encouragement elsewhere. I hope this does not attempt to over manage the market.

I object to paragraph 5.22 on the grounds that SSDC are not taking into consideration the empty units already in Yeovil. SSDC should be encouraging businesses to fill these empty units first before wasting money on an extension to the Quedam, which will inevitably also remain empty. SSDC should also be regenerating the Middle Street, especially at the lower end. Both these should form a new policy replacing Paragraph 5.22. An extension to the Quedam is unnecessary, and unsustainable.
