Objection 8. Options for Policy YV5 'Yeovil Airfield flight safety zone' have not been explored thoroughly or imaginatively. The Local Plan is intended as a long term plan and yet this policy is dictated by immediate needs. The airfield is critical to AgustaWestland's (AW) current operation but is an anachronism that should be challenged whilst improving AWs future competivity. The opportunity of relocating AWs flight test activity to the much bigger airfield at Yeovilton should be explored. A s

We note that Policy YV5 intends to maintain an area of land to the west of Yeovil wherein only development that can be "justified as causing no hazard to the operational needs of [the] aerodrome" will be permitted. Para 5.61 refer to this a "built development" being "precluded".

Conflict is being created with suggestion of developing surround land. The present land uses should be secured to avoid risk of infringement and potentail calamities should any licence be reascinded.

9. Agusta Westland is key to the strategic importance and the economy of the whole district. WE SUPPORT the view that Agusta Westland should retain its estate and airfield, we also SUPPORT the need to retain the flight safety zone.
