I have had a further opportunity to look at the SSDC Local Plan documents and in particular proposals for Chard.

Section 6 Market Towns Visions and Proposals has a section relating to retailing (Para 6.28)

There is a clear statement that no additional retail floor space is required in Chard until after 2021.

I have to ask why plans are being still being worked on for the redevelopment of Boden Street to include a further supermarket. There are already 4 supermarkets in the town so a further unit in a town the size of Chard can only result in the closure of an existing supermarket, resulting in further empty shops in the town centre.

Rather than building additional shops efforts should be directed to making better use of existing facilities to maintain the core of the town.

In the present economic environment there is no justification in spending taxpayers money on a proposal which should not proceed.

What changes do you suggest to make the DPD legally compliant or sound? Rather than building additional shops efforts should be directed to making better use of existing facilities to maintain the core of the town.

In the present economic environment there is no justification in spending taxpayers money on a proposal which should not proceed.
