Do you consider the DPD is Legally Compliant? Yes
Do you consider the DPD is Sound? Yes
If you have responded that the DPD is unsound, Do you consider the DPD is unsound because it is:

Charles Bishop Limited is a landowner within the proposed Yeovil Sustainable Urban Extension, and supports the principle of Policy YV2.

There are a number of comments and observations which we would like to set out in relation to Policy YV2 and the proposed scheme.

Garden City Concept

We support the garden city concept, and suggest that the concept would be more easily achievable in design terms if a proportion of the 40% greenspace proposal were included in private gardens. A cursory look at classic garden city developments such as Hamstead Garden Suburb shows as much greenspace in private gardens as in public areas.

If, for example, 15% of the 40% greenspace proposal were added to private gardens, the density would drop to 35dph without loss of numbers on the site, while the greenspace area at 25% would still be greater than for a typical urban extension.

Furthermore, the addition of Area F, purely as additional greenspace/amenity area would help ameliorate any reduction of the public greenspace on the development area.

Again, we accept that matters such as this should perhaps be more properly considered at the Masterplan stage.

What changes do you suggest to make the DPD legally compliant or sound? No changes required
If your representation is seeking a change, do you consider it necessary to participate at the oral part of the examination? Yes
If you wish to participate at the oral part of the examination, please outline why you consider this to be necessary: Charles Bishop Limited is a local housebuilder and has land holdings within the proposed Yeovil Southern Urban Extension. The Plan should involve organisations that will be instrumental in delivering its key policies and proposals.
