Comment | LATE REPRESENTATION I support the SSDC's decision to recommend that Ilminster grows south-eastwards. This would balance the housing around the town centre out. If housing were to expand south westwards to Herne Hill residents would be 20-30 minutes walk from the town centre (longer if small children). Expanding south eastwards would result in only a 10 minute walk to the town centre. The farmland at the base of Herne Hill is especially fertile and its loss to housing has negative implications to future food production. Also the long-distance cycle path forming the northern border to Clod Harbour is a local Nature Reserve. Any development close to this Reserve would threaten its natural history. The footpath between Canal Way and Herne Hill is a popular walking area for many residents walking their dogs or recreational walking to the hill, Any further building in this area will ruin the base of the hill. I therefore support the SSDC's decision to recommend that Ilminster grows south eastwards. |
