Overall support is given for the distribution of housing growth in as much as it focuses the bulk of development on the District's largest town, Yeovil and on the market towns which demonstrate better access to jobs, services and facilities and which in turn helps to reduce the need to travel, where housing needs are better met and where rural settlements can be better protected.
Support is also given for the enhanced status of Langport/Huish Episcopi from a Rural Centre to a Local Market Town

Objection on the basis that the scale of housing growth within the District has been reduced. This is a reduction on the Proposed South West RSS requirement based on further local evidence; and reduced again, being linked to employment growth which is reduced due to the current economic climate.

Tables 4 and 5 and Policy SS5 identify the residual number of dwellings to be allocated within the new Local Plan. Reference is made to 53 dwellings which are 'allocated (but without permission). It is not clear as to what this refers to. If they are existing allocations which have not yet gained planning permission, then there is a significant question as to whether they are deliverable and developable as defined

Paragraph 4.115 confirms that there are no overriding infrastructure issues associated with any of the proposed scale or locations of growth. Differing cost implications can be secured either through the s106 mechanism or the future introduction of CIL.

It is a requirement of the NPPF that Local Plans should be prepared with the objective of contributing to the achievement of sustainable development (paragraph 151).
