I object to the choice of Keyford/Barwick site as the 'preferred option' and question whether Yeovil needs to expand to the extent that your department is proposing. The new government is still in the process of developing and implementing radical new policies on many matters and you should wait to see how they will affect planning and development. They are also putting tighter limits on immigration which will reduce estimated population growth. This will also diminish once the exceptional 2004

In the section on Sustainable Transport you place great emphasis on electric cars. An electric car is still a vehicle which needs space one road and, more importantly, for parking. The Christmas season is building up and last weekend the town's car parks were full. Do you seriously expect individuals and families to walk or cycle from the Keyford site on a winter's day and then do the same to take their purchases home? What will be the mean distance from the proposed development to Yeovil town c

I will be very interested to see how you proposed to follow up her (Mrs Jacqui Ashman of the Highways Agency) suggestions that you 'provide an opportunity to utilise rail links for the movement of freight' at Crewkerne and Chard (p3,SS5) and 'enhance the opportunities for rail enhancements....to both passenger and freight (p6, TA1 and 2), presumably referring to Yeovil.

Para 10.7 ends "there are opportunities to improve sustainable links to rail stations and in particular the Yeovil stations." Please identify these opportunities and explain how they could be implemented, particularly where Yeovil Junction station is concerned. Traffic Study
