Should Somerton be classified as a 'B' town and get a higher allocation of houses? ยง I think Somerton is in the wrong category and should be classed as a Regional Centre (Category C) with fewer houses like Langport, Martock and Bruton

It is completely wrong to classify Somerton as a Market Town in the same category as Chard for instance and it is definitely not of the same size nor has it the amount of facilities offered by such places. Somerton is more akin to Langport. Both have good public transport which is needed for the out of town shopping, schools and travel. Neither has any rail transport or easy access to that service. Residents of both shop on the other towns as well as the residents of the surrounding village

The broad approach is considered appropriate in terms of identifying settlements by role and function, establishing a hierarchal structure and focusing most development at the largest and most sustainable locations.

The following representations are submitted in broad support of the continued recognition of Crewkerne Key Site 1 within the emerging Core Strategy as an appropriate site for the delivery of residential development. The identification and recognition of the importance of the site within Chapter 6 (Market Towns - Visions and Proposals) and Chapter 8 (Housing) is welcomed and supported.

Objection is made to the settlement strategy as currently detailed. Objection is made to the current approach to rural settlements and areas. The current approach to Rural Settlements and areas is considered to lack a coherent strategy. The combination of Policy SS1 and SS2 results in a strategy that anticipates growth (above current residential targets) of an indeterminate amount at unknown locations. The Core Strategy makes no attempt to plan for this growth at Rural Settlements whilst noti

We support the part of the Policy which states that Yeovil will be the prime focus for development in South Somerset. However, we object to the degree of focus and believe a higher proportion of the available housing numbers should be directed towards Yeovil.

HG's interest in South Somerset lies at Sparkford, a well connected and diverse village about 8 miles to the north of Yeovil (or about 20 minutes by bus). it will be well known to the Council as the home of Haynes and a number of other local employers and services and sits alongside the A303 at its important junction with the A359. The concern with the Draft Core Strategy We have looked at the Draft Core Strategy (or DCS) on Has behalf. Our principal concern is, with the settlement strategy pro
